I Wish I Lived in another World

I Wish I Lived in another World

Where prudence was unnecessary
and where rebuke was unheard of
I wish I lived in another world
where I didn’t have to be rankled by reality
where every moment was filled with serenity
where nobody cared if you lived
slovenly, dressed weirdly, or looked different

I wish I lived in another world
where there was no need to pilfer necessities
where lackadaisical minds were met with enthusiasm
and were there was no one to confiscate your dreams
and throw them into the deepest abyss of the ocean

But it’s just my luck
that I live in a world
where every morning I wake up with
no inkling of what’s to happen
where every day I embark on a journey into the unknown

Yes, it’s just my luck
that I live in a world
where audacity is met with punishment
where for many, life is depicted as one big joke

Yes, it’s just my luck, it truly is
that I live in a world
where you forge your own future
mold it, and bend it, and pound it till perfection
so in the end you’ll end up with
your own majestic masterpiece
a work of years stored in the minds and hearts of others
and its your choice if it’s a useful tool, or a parasite that clings
onto long gone memories just to finally
shrivel away and let go

Yes, it’s just my luck
that I live in a world
where I can wish, where I can dream,
and where I if I work hard enough can make those dreams into reality

Holden

Catcher in the Rye Poem
I’m up on the hill
Next to the crazy cannon,
Looking below
At the field
At the people
Yelling and screaming
Having a good time
Its December
And all,
And its freezing cold
On top of that stupid hill
I have no gloves
They were stolen by crooks
And I stand there
With my reversible
Thinking of what happened
Waiting for a goodbye
Waiting and waiting
For what will never come.

Book Review

Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie
Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick, is an amazingly gripping novel, which pulls you in and doesn’t let you out. The story is about a young boy whose world is turned upside down when his brother gets leukemia. Yes, it is a cancer related novel, which makes it sound like it might be depressing, but Sonnenblick majestically levels out the sad moments with the happy ones, and fits humor in every crack making you laugh and cry at the same time. This book is about getting through tough times, and remembering that even in the midst of tragedy love can flourish and bonds can become stronger.
Steven the protagonist of Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie has a decently normal life, a crush on the hottest girl in school (who apparently doesn’t know he’s alive), a spot in the all-city jazz band (whose members nickname him peasant) and a little annoying brother named Jeffery (who he cant stand); but when Jeffery gets leukemia Steven’s life starts to fall into pieces. Steven’s Mom quits her job to take care of Jeffery, suddenly Steven’s dad goes mute, and Steven, well, lets just say he’s not exactly stoked about the day his report card has to come home.
Steven is a character you won’t forget. With his colorfully drawn and hilariously sarcastic personality he will catapult you on a once in a life time rollercoaster ride and you’ll be laughing all the way through.
I definitely recommend reading this of Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick I loved it and hope you will too. This is a stand alone novel there are no other books to accompany it, but besides Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie Jordan Sonnenblick has also written Notes from the Midnight Driver and Zen and the Art of Faking It. I really liked Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie and hope you will read it too.

My Lil Bro

My Brother

Is a riot, my brother is a clown
with a never ending smile painted to his face
he is an adventurer, a genius, one you don’t easily forget

Yes my bother is a parasite
but even more, he’s life essential
my brother a ray of sun
shinning through my window

My bother is a time machine
he’s what I could have been

Because of him
I have someone to teach
someone to talk to
and because of him
I have someone to learn from

What If Everyone Cared

What If Everyone Cared

I sit at my computer rather despondent not knowing what to do. I go online and pull up YouTube then look up Nickelback (I’ve been listing to a lot of their music lately). There’s quite a bit of songs that come up on the search. I scroll down; seen that one, seen that one, seen- oh wait “If Everyone Cared”, hm interesting. Might as well watch it, I think, as I pull it up. After I wait about an hour for the song to load I pull it up. The music and the video astounded me it made me what to go on a tirade about peace and make a difference it made me realize that if you put in the effort you can achieve great things and if you do it right really make a difference. What if everyone cared?

Grandpa

Grandpa

I look up
sweat dripping
down my face
like droplets of water
dripping down
a clear window pane

Your running beside me
treading along
like a speedy racehorse
trained to endure
a thousand mile race

You smile at me
cheerful
as always
like a young child
on Christmas morning

fooling every passerby
more than once
I’ve been asked if
your middle aged
you’ve shown me many things
and pushed me to my limits
always telling me to do my best

eight miles now
and I feel weary
but you
you seem as if you
haven’t even broken a sweat

Slice Of Life Thursday

The street lights shine above me, as I skate below on the street. I pop my board up and push it to the side, landing a pop shuv it. It’s a beautiful night, and you can see the moon, peeking out from behind the clouds. Behind me I can hear my friends talking and laughing it’s a normal day after school. Tomorrow I have a math exam; maybe I should study, I think, but I don’t. I keep on skating under the street lights and moon light sky.

"I’m Taller Than You!"

"I’m Taller Than You!"

You know what I hate when people brag about their height. Yep, that’s right I abhor it. I know you tall people are despondent and interminably haunted by short people’s awesomeness and are impelled to tease us but at least try to be affable (just don’t say anything). I know that you tall people aren’t very profound so just leave it (go live your sorry reclusive lives). I’m not going to name any names (Cough Nicholas) but your comments about height are pretty annoying. I know you get a tremulous voice whenever you think about how cool it would be to be short like me but you aren’t so just live with it! I know you might think my tirade might be a bit over exaggerated but you should take my sage advice and be nicer to short people.

Whats To Confess?

Whats to Confess?

It’s Confession Tuesday and I don’t know what to write (what’s new). Ok, I confess that it’s hard for me to start writing. It seems that when I need to write my mind just goes blank and the only things I can think about are things that have nothing to do with the assignment. So there you have my Confession Tuesday and I have one less thing I can write about next time. Happy! (at least I tried).

Another Memoir Monday

Memoir Monday

I look out the window at the trees, meadows, and snow topped mountains rolling along below me as I fly above on an airplane. This is my home the place were I’ve lived for two years but it seems like I’ve lived here forever. I think about skiing in winter and hiking in the summer about playing soccer with my friends and my morning run to school all those things that had become so normal to me were now going to be gone as I wandered off in into the weird and unknown country of Panama. What would I do there in the rainforests and by the so called Panama Canal too exotic things that seemed a world away would I have any friends, go to a fun school, live in a nice neighborhood? What would happen…?
“Exiting isn’t it,” said my mom as the plane started to go higher and higher up in to the clouds. Exiting? Well that’s true it is something new and there will be lots of cool things to discover, and as I flew up into the clouds I started thinking about what I could do in Panama and all the cool things that would be there.

Stacy Peralta,

Hello, how are you? I am your number one fan. I’ve watched Lords of Dogtown and seen the documentary Dogtown Z boys both on numerous occasions. Its Amazing how you extricated yourself from your difficult life with a enthusiastic disposition. You contributed your skill to the most pivotal time in skateboarding history and made skateboarding a prevalent pass time among the young generations. Although skateboarding has been modified since your great career you are still an important skateboarder in history and I wish to someday have instilled your imperative skating style with mine.

Sincerely Your Anonymous Fan

Cayuco Girls

The Truth about Cayuco

Ok, I have a confession to make, you know those Cayoco races, that everbody is crazy about here in Panama, well it is fun to see people race, and get to find out who wins, but that’s not the real reason why I love watching them. Ok, now I’m going to have you use your brain a bit; Girls and water, what do girls usually wear around water? Ok bingo, now Cayuco girls are athletic, humorous, and oh so sexy. Now really, why do you think, I think it’s great to watch the Cayuco races? and usually right after a race, a bunch of Cayuco girls will go over to my friends house, and ask if you watched them, of course its always good to have the right answer to that one. So Dad I’m sorry, I do like to see you do the Cayuco races and find out how you did but really that’s not why I so enthusiastically skate over to all the Races and watch them.

Patience Pays Off

Patience Pays Off

“Sloan get out of the room I’m working!” I yell as my brother starts to slowly open the door. My brother makes a face and runs away little brat I think as I turn my eyes toward the computer screen. After I’ve typed about one sentence my brother is back in I yell at him again and he proceeds to do the normal. This goes on about ten more times (yeah you guessed it now I’m really pissed off). My brother comes in again and I look at him maybe I should be nice I think.
“Hey Sloan would you like to read what I’m writing” I say.
My brother looks bewildered but then in a small voice he says “Of course”.
The rest of the day my brother was really nice to me and I didn’t need to scream at him any more. From that I learned that patience really does pay off.

Slice Of Life Thursday: Playing Guitar

Slice Of Life Thursday

I sit on my bed my guitar in my hands as my fingers fly from string to string and fret to fret. I’m playing a fast blues riff looking into space angrily I’m upset and bored and don’t know what to do. I try not to think and to push all the thought out of my head (usually when I do that I can come up with some pretty cool tunes). Slowly my mind starts to blank out and the melodies get slower and slower softer and softer until I’m playing a soothing classical song my mind completely intertwined with the music.

I Go to My Freinds House Every Friday

Memior Monday: True Courage

What I Hope To Accomplish This Year

Wordly Wise Wednesday

Confession Tuesday

Confession Tuesday:

1. I wish skittles were healthy and that every time you popped one in your mouth it filled your body with vitamins, protein, and all that good stuff.

2. I wish I didn’t have to go to school and that I got millions of dollars for doing whatever I wanted.

3. OK, I admit to it I’m the one who ate all the pies and puddings that were presents for my mom when my brother got born.

4. And yes, me and my friends ran through the crazy ladies yard and got busted.

5. I also eat way to much candy when I go to the movies and get sick when I come back home.

6. By the time school starts I’m usually mentally asleep.

7. Yes I’m the guy you see holding on the back of a car riding a skateboard (don’t show this to the police).

8. Oh yeah and I hate homework and am going to stop with the confessions now before you find out to much.
